From Constant Tantrums and Anxiety to a Calmer, More Confident Child: Alec’s Story

For Alec’s family, daily life had become unpredictable—and often overwhelming.

Around age 4–5, his tantrums began to increase in both frequency and intensity. Small problems could trigger big emotional reactions, and it became harder and harder for him to regulate himself.

As his parent shared: “Big emotions for small problems is the best way I can describe it.”

He also struggled with anxiety, impulsivity, and difficulty focusing. Even simple things—like changes in routine, going to bed late, or waking up early—could throw off his entire day.

Social situations became especially stressful.

“Tantrums had us limit or avoid socialization. I would get anxiety just thinking about what might set him off.”

Exhausted and Searching for Answers

Like many parents in this situation, Alec’s family tried everything they could think of.

They worked on:

  • diet changes
  • strict routines
  • limiting or eliminating screen time

But despite their efforts, progress was limited.

“Emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting.”

Sleep was also a major challenge.

Alec experienced night terrors, leaving his parents waking up multiple times throughout the night.

“I felt like I had a newborn baby again having to wake up at all hours of the night.”

A New Understanding of What Was Really Going On

When they came to Vibrant Life Chiropractic, they were introduced to a different way of looking at things.

Instead of focusing only on behavior, they began to understand how Alec’s nervous system might be playing a role.

When they saw his scans:

“I felt terrible. Like I knew something was off… seeing it in the scans and tying it in with what I was seeing made more sense.”

“Of course things were going to set him off easier if he’s been in fight/flight mode for long periods.”

Early Changes and Signs of Progress

By the second scan, they began noticing meaningful changes.

Alec started to:

  • recover from tantrums more quickly
  • become easier to redirect
  • show improvements in focus
  • appear less anxious overall

Even outside of the original concerns, new wins showed up:

  • improved coordination (noticed in Taekwondo)
  • increased independence (wanting to tie his shoes)
  • better tolerance for things like nail trimming

Better Sleep, Better Regulation, Better Life

Sleep began improving as well.

  • Falling asleep faster
  • Sleeping more independently
  • Night terrors significantly reduced

His overall mood and energy shifted:

“Better mood, less anxious.”

“More easy going and getting better with socializing.”

Life Now

Today, things are significantly better.

“He still has some outbursts, but not as often.”

More importantly, Alec is now able to:

  • calm himself down independently
  • work through problems with minimal support
  • handle situations that used to overwhelm him

“I have observed him calm down on his own… or see the solution to the problem by himself.”
